Japan has jailed Middle Tennessee man Christopher Savoie for trying to take back his kidnapped children from Noriko Savoie who kidnapped them and took them to Japan. There are many stories out there of Japanese who have a falling out with their spouse, kidnaps the kids and then will then try to deny all access to the kids. In the case where the marriage is with a non-Japanese usually the kids are kidnapped and taken back to Japan and this is what happened in this case. There are heart breaking stories out there where the shut out parent will desperately try to maintain a relationship with kids but the kidnapper parent usually with the help of their parents effectively cuts off all contact. Usually the shut out parent has no options for getting their kids back but in this case Christopher Savoie decided to do something about it. Good for him.

Christopher flew to Fukuoka and as his ex-wife walked the two children to school Monday morning, Savoie drove alongside them grabbed his kids, forced them into his car, and drove off to the U.S. consulate in that city to try to obtain passports for Isaac and Rebecca. The Japanese police were waiting for him.

The police took Savoie away, charging him with the abduction of minors — a charge that carries a jail sentence of up to five years. In the Japanese system people are almost always convicted.
The consulate met with Savoie on Monday and Tuesday, and has provided him with a list of local lawyers and said it will continue to assist.

I think good for Christopher for trying to get his kids back if he had done nothing there is a very strong likelihood he would never see his kids again. This link leads to many personal accounts of this happening.
The excuse that is given is that it is the Japanese way or some bullshit like that.

There are many documented cases of this type of kidnapping being conducted by Japanese and a whole website dedicated to the issue called JCRN - Japan Children’s Rights Network.

This is wrong and terrible Japan has jailed the father who is the victim of having his kids kidnapped while Ex-wife is free to do as she pleases. A common very ironic observation that is made is the Japanese will bitch and scream about having people abducted by North Korea but they let these international kidnappings go unchecked.

Japan is slow to change but it is possible. In the past Matthew Perry forced change on the Japanese, and an A-bomb also forced change.

I think this type of kidnapping is disgusting and should be exposed to the world as loudly as possible. Express your support for Christopher and your outrage towards the Japanese law system that allows this to happen.

According to a Japan Times article 33% of Japanese men sit down to pee. The main reasons given why are “ease of posture” and “ease of cleaning”. These numbers have increased 9.4% from a similar survey conducted in 2004.

Takuji Yano of Toto’s public relations department said, “It seems that people are tending to be more conscious about the bathrooms in their home, such as equipping washlet attachments to the toilet and trying to keep them cleaner.” Toto is a manufacturer of advanced toilet washlet attachments that can have heated seats, can spray a stream of water to clean you off and often have a built in blow dryer. They have even more advanced washlet attachments that can automatically open the lid when you approach the Toto Neorest is a good example.

Is it less manly to sit to pee? I wonder how many American men sit to pee.

Are the benefits of a cleanlier bathroom the best reason why you should sit to pee?

Japan has a  well developed whaling industry set up under the guise of scientific research. The whales this country hunts often end up on dinner tables for food. Naturally animal activists are opposed to the unnecessary slaughter of these whales. After world war two the whale meat may have been necessary but those days are long past.

Anti-whaling nations led by Australia and New Zealand, as well as environmental groups, have criticized Japan for its annual whaling expeditions describing them as cruel and unnecessary.

Japan’s new government requested the Australia government help prevent violent attacks by activists on Japanese whalers.

Stephen Smith of the Australian government stopped short of replying to the request, only saying Australia wants to resolve the dispute through dialogue to avoid straining relations.

Japan hunts whales by using a loophole in the 1986 moratorium on commercial whaling that allows whales to be killed for “lethal research,”.

This is a complete farce they should hunt them openly or not at all.

NewsChannel5.com ran a story about a Japanese national that deliberately kidnapped two  kids she  had with Middle Tennessee man Christopher Savoie. This woman Noriko Savoie knew Japan does not recognize family court orders from the United States and deliberately kidnapped the kids. There are many documented cases of this type of behavior and a whole website dedicated to the issue called JCRN - Japan Children’s Rights Network. A video of the story can be seen by following the NewsChannel5.com link.

What is the JCRN - Japan Children’s Rights Network website about?

There are a group of gaijin and Japanese who have had children with a Japanese national and are now facing an uphill battle for their children. For whatever reason the relationship with the spouse goes south and what happens is one the Japanese parents tries to deny all access to the kids by the other parent. If the marriage is between a Japanese and a non-Japanese very often the kids are taken back to Japan. The shut out parent usually loses all access to the children, the kidnapper often tries to poison the child against their other  parent. The parent that has lost their kids has few legal options and is usually absolutely fucked.

This link leads to many personal accounts of this happening.

A common observation that is made is the Japanese will bitch and scream about having people abducted by North Korea but they let these international kidnappings go unchecked.

I think this type of kidnapping is disgusting and should be exposed to the world as loudly as possible. Japanese culture likes to cover up shameful behavior all the time and nothing will change unless an external entity forces them in to it.

Great new post about an interview between the Japan Times and a GEOS employee has been posted to LetsJapan.org. The post criticizes the GEOS employee’s answers to the interview questions for the first half and the second half summarizes the different groups within the English teaching industry in Japan.

    1. Eikaiwas

    2. ALT Dispatch Firms

    3. Homestaty Dispatch - Study Abroad Agents

They have nothing good to say about any group and until I read the post I didn’t know Eikaiwa’s and ALT Dispatch Firms were not the only groups who have been accused of underhanded business practices. In the past Gateway21 was a company that sent Japanese students abroad to Study English but the company went bankrupt and all the clients lost their money. I wonder which other agents that send students abroad are screwing over customers to this day the same way Gateway21 did.

To get the scoop about Eikaiwa companies see the LetsJapan forum.

To read about underhanded ALT dispatch firms look up Interac Japan as there is a wealth of information out there.

Found an interesting thread about Gaijinpot forum censorship. Makes for interesting reading.

I think any business has every right to moderate their forum like crazy. At the same time I think threads like the above exist because people are pointing out the harmful effects of all the censorship.  Uninformed job seekers are at risk of being sucked in to a bad job situation because valuable information that exposes companies with shady business practices is hidden away. Gaijinpot is an enabling tool that exists for the benefit of the sleazy companies that advertise with them. They’re kind of like an employment recruiter.
