Found a good article on Yomiuri describing how the town that actively sanctions the slaughter of wild dolphins for profit is upset their hidden activities were exposed in the Aademy Award-nominated documentary The Cove. Click on this link for a review of The Cove.

The movie is about a secretly filmed Dolphin slaughter that occurs near small Japanese town called Taiji.

“The way it was filmed was wrong, and the scenes it contains are inaccurate. It shouldn’t win an Oscar,” said one local fisherman.

See that’s where the fishermen are wrong the scenes in the movie are as accurate as you can get.
Miyato Sugimori, an executive of Taijicho fishery cooperatives, said “the fishermen had not been notified of the filming in advance and had not agreed to have their faces shown in the film.”

Sugimori is a genius, the secretly filmed scenes are the whole point of the documentary and The Cove does a great job showing the faces of the dolphin butchers.

A lawyer for the fishermen said, “Local fishermen are referred to as Japanese mafia [in the film]. It also accuses them of trying to conceal their fishing operations. It has clear factual errors.”

These fishermen may not be Mafia but they definitely act like it in the documentary and they go do go to great lengths trying to hide what they do.

The Yomiuri article states, “The distributor said it would release the film in Japan after obscuring the faces of the fishermen.”

What a waste of time, getting to see what Japanese are like is a great part of this film. Japanese are know for politeness, but anybody who lives here knows its as fake as hell. Japanese are the most two faced culture on the planet and you get to see this in the film. If you are in Japan and want to see the faces of Japanese who like to harpoon trapped animals, get the film off of a local torrent site.

Film director Louie Psihoyos got the best  line off in the Yomiuri article. He said, “I’m not sure why the Taiji fishermen are upset. It’s not a ‘Japan-bashing’ movie. It’s a love letter.”

The academy awards are planned for March 7 if  The Cove wins it will be great for exposing these Taiji fishermen.

Just watched The Cove, a documentary about the yearly slaughter of thousands of dolphins near a small Japanese town called Taiji.

This is a great documentary, I recommend it highly. After you finish watching it, it has much more impact than any Michael Moore film in my opinion.

The movie is about former dolphin trainer Ric O’barry’s crusade to end the secretive slaughter of thousands of dolphins being conducted yearly at a small little fishing town called Taiji.

With a really diverse team that gets assembled they secretly film what these Jap fishermen are doing and exposing it to the world.

The bottom line is the dolphin culling is done for money more than anything, not food or culture. The quality dolphins that are captured are sold for about $150,000 USD to places like Sea World. The rest is sold for $600 per dolphin as Mercury tainted meat in supermarkets and schools.

The Japanese like to conduct their dolphin holocaust in a tiny little cove where it is impossible to see what is happening. I love how these Jap fishermen try to do the killing as discretely as possible.

There’s one funny one called “Private Space” because its the only two words of English he knows.

Ric O’barry talks about one incident where Private Space  and one other Jap fisherman try to goad him in to a fight by taking a baby dolphin and slitting its throat in front of him. They were essentially trying to get him to do something stupid so they could get him kicked out of Japan. Ric calls it being ‘taken out of the game’

    Picture of Private Space below

The whole film is a lead up to the secretly filmed killing and the process involved for how they get the secret cameras in place during night time commando runs.

By secretly sneaking in high definition cameras built in to what was made to look like a rocks, Ric and his team got great, great footage of the Jap fishermen in action without them knowing. Getting help from a former Industrial Light and Magic employee the cameras did a great job while still staying hidden. Cameras were also placed underwater with microphones so you can clearly hear the screams of the dolphins as they’re speared.

There are many scenes from the movie all over Youtube but they are generally bad resolution. When you watch the movie you can see clearly the gory details of what is happening in clear high definition. You realize all the pictures you see about this stuff on the web are not photo-shopped they really are that gory and ugly.

There is one shot from an underwater camera where the water that is clear suddenly turns dark red with blood as you hear the dolphin screams. The Jap fishermen like to use thin sharp spears to impale the trapped dolphins. They look like they’re having a great time. Can you believe this is the culture that created Hello Kitty and likes to dress up their pets in cute little outfits?

For me when I saw this movie it made me think of below except back in 1937 the Japanese were doing it to human beings in one of worst atrocities of World War 2.  The pictures do look eerily similar I think. Cruelty seems to be a Japanese cultural characteristic.

Found an interesting article about Broome a city on the Western Australian coast informing the Japanese city of Taiji they will cut off their sister city ties if Taiji doesn’t stop their yearly covert slaughter of thousands upon thousands of dolphins.

There is a new documentary about this topic called The Cove that is getting great reviews.

This link leads to a great first hand account about the topic.

What are the details about this issue?

Every year thousands and thousands of dolphins are slaughtered in a gruesome and gory orgy of blood and dolphin screams. See this link for some graphic video footage about the topic.

See flipper as he is sentenced to death in a pool of his own blood.

So what happens to all these executed dolphins? They’re served up as lunch for school children.

Why is this bad? Dolphin meat is loaded with Mercury!

Not all the dolphins are sentenced to becoming lunch. Some of the lucky ones are sent ones are sent off to aquariums and Sea World like theme parks in Japan and Asia.

They roughly make a cool $100,000 to $150,000 for each one apparently.

Look how happy he looks. Not only is he in prison he gets to be forced to perform every day!

So what’s the bottom line? Thousands of dolphins are massacred every year to provide Mercury tainted meat to the Japanese public and the rest are shipped off to aquariums for a healthy profit.

I think the animal rights activists have a case with this one.

I also love how the how these fishermen cover up and try to do their dirty work as covertly as possible. Cover ups seem to be a common thing for the Japanese

If you need to transfer money from Japan to your home country Golloyds is a good option. I tried the service myself and give it high marks for my positive experience.

Step 1) I submitted my account application via the web.

Step 2) I I filled out the required documents and mailed it to them. If you are approved for an account they will mail you back with an acknowledgment you are approved and instructions on how to transfer money.

Step 3) From your Japanese bank account you need to transfer or furikomi the money to an intermidiary account they set up for you. Golloyds will then wire the money from the intermediary account to your home country bank account once they receive your furikomi. This system works very well if you have a Shinsei bank account because you get a certain number of free furikomi transfers a month for me it’s 5. Using online banking it is possible to furikomi transfer money from your Shinsei account to the Golloyds account they have set up for you. This lets you skip the need to go to an ATM machine to do the Furkikomi

Cost: Golloyds charges only a flat rate of 2000Yen for this service. Searching around the different options available a common figure you see is 4000Yen per transfer so Golloyds is very competitive price wise. The other cost you will need to deal with is the fee your home bank will charge. For Canadian banks its usually about $15 Canadian. Total cost to you is 2000Yen plus $15. You can see what your home country bank will likely charge on the Golloyds website

Speed: The money successfully showed up in my account the very next day. No delays no screw ups.

Exchange Rates: It is possible to see what exchange rates Golloyds is offering on their website the rates are usually posted at around 10AM Japan time. They also offer a service where they mail each days rates to you by email.

Based on my experience I recommend this money transfer service.

This is a review of the movie Angels and Demons starring Tom Hanks. This is the sequel to the movie The Davinci Code.

First off this movie sucks. Don’t pay money for it.

The plot involves the bad guys stealing anti-matter that was created by activating a Hadron Collider. The anti-matter is very dangerous and has the explosive power of a small nuclear bomb and is kept in place by a container running on Duracell batteries. The bad guys are technology loving anti Catholic church geeks persecuted by the Catholics hundreds of years ago and they are back for revenge.

It’s Tom Hanks jobs to help the church find out where this bomb running on Duracells is located in the Vatican. Tom can figure out where the bomb is by following ancient statues pointing in one way or another and he doesn’t miss a single clue racing from place to place. Thanks to Tom the anti-matter is found and the Vatican is saved. Hooray!

This movie has an A-bomb in a container the size of a thermos running on fucking batteries.

This movie has a priest who is branded with a burning hot iron and just buttons up his shirt and is fine a few minutes later.

This movie has a fresh faced man of the cloth who was adopted by the pope when he was an orphan child flying a military helicopter. All men of the cloth can do that right?

This movie has nothing going for it don’t go see it.

The website www.frugaljapan.com is a great website that provides tips for living cheaply in Japan.

You often hear Tokyo is one of the most expensive places to live in the world.

I think this statement is misleading. After living for about 2 years in Japan it’s possible to live cheaply in Japan and still live well. Living in Japan doesn’t seem all that much more expensive than living in any other first world nation. Although I do think this applies to single people and things do seem to get a lot more expensive if you have a family in Japan.

Frugal Japan has over 50 categories about saving money and naturally the posts have a Japan focus, but many of the posts can be applied anywhere in the world. Going through the articles will provide you with useful tips for living cheaply in Japan. I recommend the site highly.
